After an incredible first 14 months on earth - a time full of love, travel, Elmo and bubbles - Edie was diagnosed with acute megakaryoblastic leukemia (AMKL), a rare subset of AML (acute myeloid leukemia). Edie was a fighter throughout her diagnosis, treatment and relapse, especially in her last chemo round. But cancer is cruel, and it doesn't care how hard you pray or how deeply you love. On April 6, 2018, Edie passed away, but her fighting spirit lives on. The depth of the family's grief in her passing is the size of their great love for her, and while Edie only lived for 1 year, 8 months and 7 days, she was loved beyond measure. Her family made a commitment to Edie that they would do what they could to continue to shine the light she had burned so brightly in life by helping other families and joining the cause for a cure.
Proceeds for these bracelets will go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in memory of Edie and her Smiles for Miles NYC marathon team. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is engaged in groundbreaking research to find new treatments in AML and pediatric blood cancers. Last year, LLS helped fund and support the first new treatments in AML in over 40 years.
Blue was Edie's favorite color and Love & Hope embody her family's commitment to a cure. It is with all of the love they have for Edie that they have chosen hope that together a cure is possible.
